Questions & Answers

How do I know that I need a colonic?

Symptoms of a poor functioning colon can include: constipation (that is fewer than 2 bowel movements per day), diarrhea, gas, bloating, indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, parasites, diverticulosis, headaches, backaches, irritability, confusion, skin blemishes, bad breath, body odor, sciatic pain, and so on.

Colonics are also recommended for people before a barium enema and afterward. They’re also recommended as a complement to any intestinal cleansing or fasting program. The colonic helps to quickly remove the built-up mucoid plaque that has softened, and come away from the walls of the intestine during the cleanse. It also helps to alleviate unpleasant cleansing reactions.

Is changing my diet enough?

It’s not enough to simply change your eating habits. The accumulated plaque will still inhibit your body’s ability to absorb nutrients, even if the food you’re eating is highly alkaline-forming.

Will one colonic completely clean the colon?

Almost never. Most people have a considerable amount of impacted material in their colon. As you become more aware of what is going on in your abdomen and as your body learns to allow the cleansing experience, you are better able to enter into that process and therefore more material is released.

One colonic will remove some of the stagnant waste in the colon. The second and subsequent colonics will remove more.

Won’t colonics damage the normal intestinal flora?

Accumulation of encrusted feces in the colon makes it impossible for the glands to produce the necessary intestinal flora, resulting in increased constipation. Cleansing the colon helps bring the acid-alkaline ration back into balance, allowing friendly bacteria to flourish, while inhibiting disease-causing organisms. You can assist the body in this process by orally taking a proper probiotics formula to reintroduce friendly bacteria into the colon.

How much Fecal Matter can you lose per session?

A person can lose up to three or more pounds per colonic session, depending on how loose the stool is and the condition of the colon.

Are there contraindications for colon hydrotherapy?

Yes. Colon hydrotherapy is not advised when the following conditions exist:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Fistulas
  • Intestinal perforation
  • First and last trimester of pregnancy
  • Aneurysm
  • Abdominal hernia
  • Severe anemia
  • Recent colon surgery
  • Severe hemorrhoids
  • Renal insufficiency
  • Cirrhosis
  • Rectal Bleeding
  • Colon cancer

How does Colon Hydrotherapy compare with laxatives?

Both natural and chemical laxatives can irritate the colon wall and destroy both friendly and unfriendly bacteria in the bowel. If laxatives are taken more than periodically, your body may adjust and become dependent on them. Laxatives may interfere with the rest of the digestive system and could cause further problems. Conversely, colon hydrotherapy uses water to gently clean the colon, and thus, does not irritate the colon walls. It poses no risk of dependency, and it does not interfere with the rest of the digestive system.

Are Colonics painful?

Colonics are painless. Some discomfort may be experienced due to constipation, some form of obstruction, spasticity, excess flatulence (gases) and occasional cramping from the release of fecal matter or toxins.
